Medication Observation

A great advantage of having FHP as your house pharmacy is the med-pass observation option.  A pharmacist from FHP will visit your facility, during any shift, and assess a med-pass observation during any med pass you choose.  They conduct a series of checkpoints that your employee doing the med-pass should follow.  The pharmacist checks for proper technique, the initialing of the MAR, if the employee is pre-pouring, and making sure the right med is delivered correctly to the right patient, the right way, at the right time.  The pharmacist looks for everything the state/DPW would look for during an actual state regulated med-pass observation.

What FHP Looks For:

  • Check for proper technique during the med pass during the med pass
  • Making sure the med-tech checks all meds against the MAR and TAR
  • Documenting the proper disposal of medication if necessary
  • Making sure the patient gets the right meds at the proper time
  • Documenting if the med-tech leaves the med-cart unattended at any point
  • Checking correct dosage of liquids, creams, and inhalers
  • Double-checking proper signature procedures for PRN medication

The 5 Rights

  • Right Patient
  • Right Medication
  • Right Time
  • Right Dosage
  • Right Route

FHP is available for any Medication Pass Observation AM/PM, anytime of day. During the Medication Pass Observation, the pharmacist is very particular when it comes to controlled medication. They follow a strict protocol designed to help facilities become med error free, especially with CII narcotics.
